It’s Been a Long Hot Summer!
I have sadly neglected my blog for awhile and hope to get back on track this month. It has been a long hot summer so far, and it’s not even August yet!
In the dermatology world, summer is our busy season. We see lots of teachers, students and others who have time off for routine exams. We also seem to see more skin cancers. I really think they grow faster in the summer, though it could also be that people are exposing more skin and start to see things they hadn’t noticed before.
Then there’s the heat. The hotter it gets, the busier we get. Summer is when we see all kinds of rashes. Poison ivy, fungal infections, folliculitis, eczema…..the list goes on. Strange inexplicable rashes. Those are the challenges. The heat makes any rash worse, due to vascular dilation, which makes anything red redder and anything itchy itchier. So, if you have a rash, try to keep cool. (I know, hard to do these days.) Remember, this too shall pass and before we know it, it will be Christmas again and it will be safe to go outside.
We’re working on a cool August special that I’ll be announcing next week. And I’m writing a new article for www.flourishover50.com on heat related rashes. To visit the site, click here. So stay tuned!
PS I’ve also just posted a few new before/after filler photos on my Facebook page. Due to my general ineptness with WordPress, it may be awhile before I get them posted here. Check out the FB page here.
